Inside Bangkok Encapsulating Thailand's Quintessential Blend of Old and New

Where can I find a cheap beach hut to rent close to Bangkok?

I'm heading to SE ASIA in July with a friend and we'd like to start our trip easy by relaxing at a beach, staying somewhere safe yet fun which attracts tourists but not too touristy where the prices are sky rocket. I know you can rent beach bungalos cheap but I've heard that you get a much better deal organising that once you arrive. Is there any good sights for backpackers on a budget? we are flying into Bangkok and don't want to be stranded.

  1. Pattaya only 2hrs by aircon bus from Bangkok cost about 120baht one way. In Pattaya there are numerous guest houses from about 500baht. Many local eateries, avoid the western ones more expensive.

  2. Huahin is about 2-3 hours from Bangkok & is probably the cleanest & least sleazy beachside town in Thailand. Rayong is about the same distance away, but in the other direction, and is a nice choice if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

Pattaya/Jomtien is the closest beach to Bangkok, but the beach isn’t that great and the town is full of hustlers, hookers and Russian tourists. It’s a place you should visit at least once in your life, but I wouldn’t waste my whole vacation there.

  3. by using the word beach bungalow, I think you are looking for an idyllic place, near bkk – - it doesn’t really exist – you can find that type of environment in other places here, but not near bkk – - however, you might add cha’am to the list of places above – - 2 hrs from bkk – beach is nice, small town atmosphere, crowded with Thai revelers on weekend and quieter during the week days
